WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The Johnson County, Missouri, Sheriff’s Office has released new information about a homicide investigation in Warrensburg.
Two people have been confirmed dead, and the police are now looking for someone in connection with the shooting. Police are searching for 22-year-old Jonathan Goodwin Jr.
All investigators have shared about the two people shot and killed are that they are a 24-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man. It happened at a trailer just outside the city limits.
Investigators also aren’t talking about what may have led to the shooting, but neighbors say it happened in a scary spot.
The trailer sits back from 13 Highway with piles of debris and multiple generators surrounding the nearby outdoor toilet.
FOX4 is not sharing images of the blood inside the trailer, but our cameras captured video of one bullet hole in one of its walls.
Investigation/evidence flags marked a blood trail through the yard, through a carport and ending in the gravel driveway.
A hat, according to the property owner who asked us not to show his face or share his identity , belonged to one victim.
“They were friends. I guess friends of the guy who lives in that camper,” he said of the victims.
“It’s scary,” one neighbor said. “I’m moving next year. I’m moving out of state completely.”
That neighbor said he fears for his safety after hearing the gunshots around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
“There was a lot of screaming, and you could tell something crazy happened because the dude that owns the camper came out, and he was freaking out, screaming ‘What the [expletive]. Help me. I need help.’ And he was on the phone,” he said.
“And then the cops show up like 30 seconds later,” he said.
A tenant of the home in front of the trailer said she was handcuffed during the initial police response.
“I was probably sitting out there for at least an hour or two. And then they let me go. And then they were here for a few more hours,” the tenant said.
Authorities shared a picture of Goodwin Jr. People around here say they know him.
“He’s a friend of mine’s son. And yeah, I guess I met him two or three years ago,” the property owner said.
“Knowing him, the kind of kid I think he was, he’s going to have some bad guilt going on. I don’t know if they’ll find him alive. I don’t know,” he said.
“There’ll be traffic all day and night, transfers going in and out,” a neighbor said. “And then there’s normally fighting sometimes, and stand out back. They shoot guns almost every single night.”
In their most recent update, authorities said that they are still trying to figure out the full scope of the incident and understand how all of the people are connected.
The shooting happened in the 200 block of South 13 Highway.
If you know Goodwin’s whereabouts or know anything about the case, you are asked to contact the police.
