LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. -- A 22-year-old Lee’s Summit man has been charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced Monday.

Codey J. Everhart, 22, faces forcible rape and two counts of statutory rape first degree charges.

According to court records, a Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a Lake Lotawana home where the victim reported she had been raped by Everhart, a neighbor. After she let him into her home to use the restroom, she told police, he grabbed her and threw her down and had sexual intercourse with her against her will. She struggled until she got away, hid and later ran to a friend’s house, she said.

The defendant sent the victim’s mother a text message saying he was sorry.

According to the probably cause the text message read:

Omg im so sorry....it was the biggest mistake IV ever made plz I'm sorry plz don't call the cops...Ihave kids...plz I will do whatever u want I'm so so rry handsome sacred I shouldv never said yes when she asked me to come over And scared* I'm so scared....I'm so sorry mam....I sware off girls altogther...plz I'm so sorry....plz say something? ?? Plz call me mam I'm so scared right now I feel like my whole world is gona crash dwon on me.....And I 'm worried ima loose my daugthers........ (plz call or text plzzz

Everhart told police he was invited over to the house to "make out" with the victim. He admitted to knowing she was only 13. He also admitted to having some physical contact with the girl but denied having full sexual intercourse with her.

Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash.
