KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Missouri Police Department has named the top 20 crash-prone intersections in the metro. The Special Operations Division released the locations for the previous quarter, which include the months of July through September.

The list includes all types of crashes. The intersection of  I-435 and I-70 tops the list, but according to statistics, I-435 and Wornall is quickly superseding it.

Traffic analyst Sam Leslie said I-435 and Wornall already has 23 crashes this quarter — with two months to go in the reporting period. The current No. 1 crash-prone intersection (I-435 and I-70) had a total of 25 crashes for the previous quarter.

The top five that made the list are:

  • I-435 and I-70
  • Gregory and 71 Hwy
  • 23rd Street and I-435
  • Bannister and 71 Hwy
  • 87th Street and I-435

Police said most accidents at these intersections are due to inattention, following too close and traffic congestion.
