KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Investigators reclassified a New Year’s Day death investigation as a homicide on Friday. The Kansas City, Kan. Police Department identified the deceased victim as Michael A. Robinson, 53, who was found at a home in the 1800 block of North 47th Street.

What began as a welfare check quickly turned into a death investigation after police say a passer-by drove past and spotted a man dead in the front yard.

“He was fairly close to the residence just laying there in the drive-way there,” KCKPD Officer Patrick McCallop said on Thursday.

Neighbors told FOX 4 a man, a woman and a young child lived at the residence. No one was apparently there when cops arrived. Police blocked off the surrounding streets with crime scene tape and searched all around the house including the front and backyards, looking for clues.
