PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. — One person is in custody Tuesday after leading police on a lengthy chase.

Police say shortly before midnight Prairie Village police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle, but the vehicle failed to yield and a car chase ensued.

Lenexa police became involved in the chase once the vehicle entered Lenexa city limits.  The stolen vehicle crashed on the property of Trailridge Middle School, 7500 Quivira Road. According to police, a fence was damaged in the crash.

Police say the driver fled the vehicle on foot. Officers searched for the suspect, but they were unsuccessful.

Then around 5:10 a.m.,  a woman walking her dog says a man approached her and asked to use her phone.  The woman says she refused and called police.

Lenexa and Shawnee officers reported they had the man in custody near Blackfish Pkwy and Pflumm Road around 5:18 a.m.

Prairie Village officers responded and confirmed the suspect was the driver of the stolen vehicle and took him into custody.
