OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - A National Retail Federation study shows this year, there's supposed to be a 3.8 percent increase in holiday sales compared to 2010. While predictions are high, store employees and even some shoppers say, 2011 doesn't seem to be much more profitable than last year.
"It's not necessarily slow, it's just not as busy," says Paul Nmair who works at Oak Park Mall.
"A little more crowded than your average day, but maybe not as crowded as I'd expect four days before Christmas," says Margaret Guthrie, a late-shopper.
A study shows nearly 37 million Americans didn't even start their shopping by the middle of December. Stores are helping those late shoppers. Toys R Us, for example, is staying open 24 hours a day. They did that last year, but this year they're doing it for an extra 24 hours.
