KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It was just this week Fox 4 Problem Solvers told viewers about a single mother of five who was left with a gaping hole in the side of her home. The hole was created by a man she paid $500 to help her fix the wall. But all the repairman did was take the mom’s money, remove the stone and disappear.

Right after Fox 4 Problem Solvers aired the mom’s plight, the calls poured in from big-hearted stone masons wanting to donate their services to rebuild the home.

The first to volunteer was Sturgis Materials of Kansas City, Kan. The owner said he would be happy to donate any materials needed to fix the stone wall. It was Sturgis who put Fox 4 Problem Solvers in touch with stone mason Bryan McBride of Landscape Masonry who said he would rebuild the wall for free.

“I’ll just put the wall back up so she won’t get any rain inside her home,” said the soft-spoken McBride, who almost seemed embarrassed to be on camera for the work he was doing. He stressed to us that it was no big deal.

But it was a huge deal to mom Jeanne Fladung.

“I’m so grateful,” said Fladung. “I know the whole family will be grateful.”
