MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. -- Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Wildlife & Parks, and Osawatomie Fire Department water rescue  pulled a vehicle from the Hillsdale Lake Jayhawker boat ramp Thursday evening and found the remains of a man who had been missing for more than 20 years.

The vehicle was a 1981 Chevrolet Citation and registered to Fremont O' Berg of Paola, Kan. According to police there were human remains inside of the vehicle, and an autopsy confirmed that the remains belonged to O'Berg.

O'Berg was reported missing in 1992. Police said O'Berg was 57-years-old when he went missing.  Police searched areas around Miami County, including Hillsdale Lake immediately after O'Berg was reported missing in 1992, but they never had any leads.

The Miami County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday in a press release that the submerged vehicle was located by a person who was fishing. The individual was using underwater sonar to locate fish when they located the vehicle.

According to police the vehicle was located north of the boat ramp nearly 40 yards from the shoreline.

The case is still under investigation.
