LAWRENCE, Kan. — Emergency crews were on the scene of a water rescue Thursday evening at Clinton Lake where they were searching for a 13-year-old boy who went under the water and did not resurface.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident just before 7 p.m. and said the teen went missing in the water near the Clinton outlet.
The sheriff’s office said the teen is a Lawrence resident.
Officials gave an update just before 9:30 p.m. saying they were suspending the search for the night. Now are now calling this a search and recovery mission.
Officials said water was being released from the Clinton dam when the boy went under.
Authorities have been in contact with the teen’s family and say that he was with someone when he went under the water.
