KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Opening statements continue on Thursday in the retrial of Nolte vs. Ford Motor Co. Jurors will be released at noon on Thursday, and every Thursday following for the duration of the trial. Witness testimony for the plaintiff, Michael Nolte, is expected to begin on Friday.
The lawsuit alleges Ford Motor Co. design flaw contributed to the death of Michael Newton, a Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper, and left motorist Michael Nolte severely burned.
At the time of the 2003 accident, Newton was writing Nolte a ticket when another vehicle struck Newton’s patrol vehicle, bursting into flames.
Ford Motor Co. won the first trial, which both families of Newton and Nolte appealed. Jackson County court documents show only Nolte and his wife are named in the retrial.
