KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals did a pretty good job against the division leading Detroit Tigers this weekend, they just weren’t entirely pleased with the overall results.

Detroit won the series finale on Sunday, 4-1, behind solo homers from Miguel Cabrera and Andy Dirks.

The Royals could only muster one run — a solo homer which came from the bat of Miguel Tejada, who got the start for KC at second base. James Shields took the loss for the Royals, seeing his record fall to 4-7. Shields gave up 3 earned runs.

Doug Fister got the start and the win for Detroit. His record is now 8-5.

The Royals are now 7 games behind the division-leading Tigers, who have a 53-44 record. The Royals are now 45-50, and open a four-game series on Monday against the Baltimore Orioles who visit Kauffman Stadium.

Wade Davis is set to get the pitching start for Kansas City.
