SHAWNEE, Kan. -- Students and teachers from elementary and middle schools through the greater Kansas City metro area are nearing the end of their annual Hooked on Books book drive.

While you can donate all year, this year's big push for books ends on Friday. The schools collect new and gently used books for at-risk children, ages

Since 1997, Hooked on Books has collected more than 775,000 books for children in need, birth to 14.

"I feel that I have a good education and I want other kids to have a good education like I do," said Kayla, a 4th grader. "I have small books, two chapter books."
