SHAWNEE, Kan. — A domestic disturbance call that turned into a standoff with police at a home in Shawnee ended peacefully on Saturday.

Police said they were dispatched to a home in the 7400 block of Melrose Road around noon after a resident called on an issue involving a domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived, residents were asked to come outside. Everyone left the home, except the suspect who refused to comply.

Police were initially unable to make contact with the suspect and were on high alert, as the suspect reportedly had access to firearms.

They eventually made contact with the suspect, who surrendered to police without incident around 5 p.m.

Police identified the suspect on Monday as 47-year-old Robert Cash Gibson. Gibson faces four counts of domestic battery and one charge of criminal damage. His bond is set at $1,500.
