Shawnee police warn residents about increase in stolen cars

SHAWNEE, Kan. — Police in Shawnee are warning residents to take precautions after they have noticed a significant increase in the amount of cars being stolen from garages.

According to a news release from Shawnee police, garages are being entered and cars have been stolen. There have even been cases reported where both cars parked in a two-car garage were stolen.

Police say most of the incidents have occurred between 5 and 8 a.m. on the western side of Shawnee.

Police recommend that residents in the area lock up their vehicles and keep garage doors closed when possible. Police also recommended removing valuable from vehicles.

Shawnee police have increased their patrol in the area. Anyone who sees anything suspicious or has any information about the case is asked to the Shawnee Police Department at (913) 631-2150 or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
