KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Saturday's weather slowed down foot traffic during a typically busy time for metro stores. With nearly a week until Christmas, some brave shoppers hit the stores to do some last-minute shopping.

Daun Ardelean has worked at The New Dime Store for several years. She said overall it has been a busy holiday season but on Saturday they were preparing for shorter than usual lines.

"Last Saturday you could barely move in here... today is a little different. It is a little cold so everyone is just slowly getting out," said Ardelean.

Joe Adams and Hillary Green braved the slick roads and cold weather for an important reason.

"We are celebrating our engagement. We have to get our ring fixed so I want to be able to show it off," said Green.

The couple got engaged Friday evening. They said no matter the weather, this was an errand that simply couldn't wait.

Store employees say even with a slower than usual Saturday, they expect traffic to pick up again this week as the temperatures continue to rise.
