KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A suspect is in custody Friday afternoon after a standoff in Kansas City near East 11th Street and Topping Avenue.

Officer Darin Snapp with KCPD said around 12:15 p.m. officers were called to a residence in regard to an aggravated assault involving a Jackson County Court Eviction Deputy.

The deputy told responding officers he was conducting an eviction at the home when someone inside pointed a handgun at him.

The deputy told police he shot at least one round at the suspect to protect himself and civilians who were with him. Then he left the home. Police have not said if the suspect was injured.

Negotiators came to the scene, and at about 3 p.m. the suspect left the home and was taken into custody without incident. He has been arrested for aggravated assault.

The suspect has not been formally charged, so his name has not yet been released.
