KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Court documents reveal a Kansas City mail carrier`s frightening brush with an attempted robber. The local mail carrier said she got the scare of her near Gillis and Pacific in the Columbus Park neighborhood.

Elisa Sanchez told police last Wednesday afternoon she was getting mail out of her marked van when within moments, Sanchez said a man reached from behind her, grabbed her coat sleeve, and calmly ordered her to shut the vehicle's door and give him her keys and cell phone.

Investigators say out of the blue, another male stranger saw the letter carrier was in danger and told suspect Richard Monk to leave the mail carrier alone.

An officer then arrested Monk, who police say prior to trying to rob the mail carrier was prowling around the neighborhood.

Sanchez wasn`t hurt, and later told cops she was grateful for the stranger who helped her out. Monk is in custody and has a federal court hearing on Tuesday.
