KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Planet Comicon takes place this weekend at Bartle Hall, but a few characters got into costume early. Supergirl, Wolverine, Green Arrow, Queen Elsa and characters from Star Wars came to Children's Mercy Hospital during for the employee blood drive.

The superheroes hung out with the kids before the event, and then got a chance to meet with the staff. It gave them a chance to finally get to know some of the people they work with quite often, but don't usually get to chat.

"A lot of times our staff don't get to interact with superheroes when they come, and that's why this event is so special, because they're here just for the staff to be able to engage with and make them feel special too," said Child Life Program Coordinator Trista Williams.

Some of the characters even took time to donate blood. So unlike their silverscreen counterparts who only save lives in the movies, these superheroes were saving the lives of real people.

Community Blood Center will be holding a blood drive at their booth at Planet Comicon, going on from Friday to Sunday.
