Suspect accused of trying to rob couple at Liberty ATM arrested after crashing car

LIBERTY, Mo. — An 18-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man is in custody in Liberty, Mo., accused of trying to rob a couple at an ATM Wednesday evening.

Police were called out to the US Bank, 1909 W. Kansas. The victims, a man and a woman from Kansas City, Mo., said they were in their car at the ATM when a man wearing black clothing and a Halloween mask approached them with an unknown weapon and demanded money.

The victims said he ran away from the scene on foot.

Officers saw a man running nearby behind Liberty High School and identified him as the suspect. They saw him get into a White Dodge Charger and drove southbound on Conistor Street.

Police say he was going at a high rate of speed; they pursued him and say he crashed into a utility about two blocks later at the intersections of King’s Highway and Wilshire Blvd.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
