Suspect with gun killed by officers in Independence, Mo.

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Two Independence, Mo. police officers are on administrative leave after they shot and killed a man who confronted them with a handgun. Police identified the deceased as George D. Reynolds, 49, who lived in Independence.

It happened at about 8:40 p.m. at the 1600 block of S. Swope.  Two officers responded to a domestic disturbance call and were allowed into the residence. As the officers stepped inside, they say they were immediately confronted by the person with the gun. They fired shots and the suspect was hit and died at the scene.
