Boyfriends Clash, One Gets Shot

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Two couples. One gun. And now a police report.

Independence police said a man inside the home shot an intruder in the leg after he entered a home in the 300 block of N. Ponca. Police said the intruder arrived at the home looking for his estranged girlfriend, entering through a sliding glass door in the back of the house.

The incident was first reported as a burglary, but police have confirmed it was a domestic dispute instead.

According to police, the shooting victim is the ex-boyfriend of a woman who was visiting another woman at the home. According to the couple who live there, the other couple had an abusive relationship.

It is unclear at this time what caused the shooting, but the victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening. Crews transported the victim to an area hospital where he is expected to be okay.
