KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Suspects are in custody after police say they committed an armed robbery and led police on a vehicular pursuit on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said five white males entered at a McDonald's at 39th Street and Bolger Road in Independence revealed guns there.  They then went to the Discount Smokes and Liquor store on East Truman Road and assaulted and robbed a man in the parking lot, according to police.

The suspects fled the scene in a white Cadillac. Independence police located the vehicle around 1 p.m., but the suspects refused to pull over. A pursuit ensued with speeds at times reaching 70 to 80 miles per hour, eventually leading into Kansas City, Mo., where Kansas City police joined the chase.

Police deployed spike strips, which blew out the back tires on the suspects' car. They continued in the damaged vehicle until the driver eventually lost control and the car left the road on 435 Highway near Independence Avenue.

Police said two suspects stayed in the car while the three others abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot in different directions into a nearby wooded area.

Officers arrested the fleeing suspects in the woods near Midwest Scrap Metal on Wilson Road. All five are now in custody.
