AKRON, Ohio — An Ohio teacher is in hot water after allegedly posting a photo of her classroom with duct-tape covering their mouths alongside a caption that said “finally found a way to keep them quiet!”

The picture was taken and posted by Melissa Cairns in late October or September, the Akron Beacon Journal reported.

The photo allegedly shows sixteen students in her middle school math class with duct-tape stretched across their mouths. The photo has since been removed.

The board of education voted to terminate the teacher on Jan. 14. She has until Jan. 26 to respond, the paper said.

Cairns has been on paid leave since Oct. 19, a school spokeswoman said.

School officials were apparently tipped off when a friend and colleague of Cairns saw the photo and told the school’s principal. Cairns was told to take it down and to notify parents.

A “referee” may be assigned to the case, with the task of seeing whether or not it rises to a level of termination.
