KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Family members have confirmed the identities an Ohio couple killed in a small-engine plane crash near the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport on Sunday as John K. Lallo and his wife, Diana.
Samantha Lallo, one of the Lallo’s four children said her parents arrived in Kansas City on Thursday to visit another daughter of theirs, Melissa Lallo-Johnson.
John Lallo was the President of McRoyal Industries, which makes products for the food industry. His wife was a retired school teacher.
The plane crashed shortly after takeoff on Sunday afternoon. Kansas City Fire Department Battalion Chief James Garrett confirmed the crash and said it happened around 3 p.m.
KCPD spokesman Tye Grant said that it looked like the plane landed on its belly after an apparent nose-dive. Grant said it also appeared that the plane was still mostly intact.
Kansas City International Airport Marketing Manager Joe McBride said that the make of the plane is a Mooney Aircraft, but he did not specify the year model. He said the plane crashed south of the levee near the airport.
Lallo was given the okay to turn around and head back to the airport. In that process is when things went terribly wrong.
Funeral services are scheduled for John and Diana on Saturday August 24 at St. Anthony’s Church in Youngstown, Ohio.
