GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. — The Grain Valley Police Department is investigating after two people were found dead outside a day care Monday night.
Police say officers responded to a shots fired incident outside Milestone Academy off S. Buckner Tarsney Road.
When officers arrived on scene they found two people deceased.
Police said the incident appears to be an isolated domestic dispute that resulted in a murder-suicide.
No children were physically injured during the incident, according to police, and there is no current danger to the public.
A cousin of one of the victims came to the scene and tells FOX4 that the couple involved had at least two children who were under the age of 10 and went to the day care, police not yet willing to make the connection.
“We understand that these situations are very concerning and dangerous and the community understand that we work diligently to secure their safety and to respond to emerging situations as they arise, Grain Valley Police Chief Ed Turner said. “We work closely with all of our area partners to respond collectively to any of these threats that come so we know that these are dangerous situations we are grateful for the men and women that quickly reposed and go into harms way to prevent any damage or harm coming to anyone in the community.”
Grain Valley police are working closely with Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s office.
Police said this is an active investigation at this time. Anyone with information should contact Grain Valley Police Department at (816) 847-6250.
Milestone Academy said it will be closed on Tuesday.
FOX4 has a crew heading to the scene and will have updates online and on FOX4 News at 9 and FOX4 News at 10.
