KANSAS CITY, Mo. — “I just can’t believe this has happened to us again. I haven’t even buried my son, Demarco, and now his older brother is dead? It’s all just so devastating, ” said Lanette Knott, the mother of 23-year-old Demarco Knott.

Police say on September 25th someone shot and killed Knott outside the Value Place Motel near 113th and Colorado Streets in Kansas City as Knott visited his girlfriend.

As of Monday, his killer still hasn’t been caught.

“My family is hurting so much right now. I just don’t know what to think. Demarco’s funeral is Saturday. He’s lying in a casket at a funeral home and now his brother’s body is at the morgue,” said a teary-eyed Lanette as she stood near East 81st and Blue Ridge Boulevard on Monday afternoon.

Just hours before, police say they went to a home in that neighborhood to check out a disturbance. When officers arrived, they found 35-year-old Ronald Pruitt, Demarco Knott’s older brother, had also been shot and killed inside the home he’s lived in for the last two years.

Relatives tell FOX 4 that four guys armed with guns stormed inside Pruitt’s home, shot him several times and then sped off in a car that they parked in the victim’s front yard.

“I just heard five gunshots and then a pause and I heard two more shots. It was so close to home and pretty scary, ” said neighbor Nancy Tempel.

“It’s very sad for this entire family with these murders of these two brothers happening so close together, back to back to the same family,” said Pastor Bruce Walker, who will officiate Demarco Knott’s funeral service on Saturday.

Family members say Pruitt’s 16-year-old son, feared for his life and was wrapped in a blanket at the shooting scene because he cut his arm when he jumped out of window as bullets whizzed around him.

We’re also told Pruitt’s female acquaintance and her baby, who were inside the home at the time of the deadly shooting, weren’t hurt.

Family members tell FOX 4 detectives now want to talk to another woman, Pruitt’s live-in girlfriend, about the shooting. Relatives say the girlfriend was at the residence before her boyfriend was killed.

“I know there’s a lot we don’t know, but I do know she drove by the house late Monday afternoon and kept going. We just want to know if she had anything to do with what happened to Ronald? Did she become angry after apparently seeing another woman at his home or not? We just want some answers,” said a female relative who asked us to conceal her name.
