KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A spokesperson for the Kansas City Fire Department now says just one person died Wednesday in a Northland house fire. Originally they said two people died.

The fire occurred at a home along Northeast Munger Avenue, which is near I-35 and Hwy. 69 split.

While firefighters did not release the victim’s identity, they did say the victim is a middle-aged woman. They found her in one of the bedrooms.

Deputy Fire Chief Jimmy Walker said investigators believe the fire started in the basement or near the basement stairwell. Bomb and arson crews also responded to the scene.
