KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police are investigating a shooting in River Market on Sunday afternoon near 3rd and Grand.

An officer at the scene told FOX4 that two people were shot inside a car. The report came out around 2 p.m.

Their injuries are now believed to be non-life threatening.

Investigators were still processing the scene Sunday evening. Earlier, a couple of syringes were seen near a pool of blood, indicating this may be a drug deal gone wrong.

Witnesses told FOX4 they head 6 or 7 gunshots. A witness said the shooting happened in the parking lot across from the Chinatown Food Market.

They said the shooter ran away and the two people inside the car tried chasing the suspect but never made it past 3rd and Grand.

"The driver was holding her left side and the guy, rolled out, I think it was on his chest," said witness John Chuebemal.

"I think we're all just shocked that something liek this happened right here and we were here at the same time," said Tim Lugo, another witness.

There were a lot of people in the area. Witnesses said as soon as the shots rang out, people scattered.

Police have not released the victims' identities, nor any suspect information.
