OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A waiter at Rock and Brews restaurant and bar in Overland Park is still pinching himself over his good fortune after spending Monday night at Kauffman Stadium watching the Royals in the World Series.

Ryan O’Connor’s story just fell together.

He usually works the night shift, but he was asked to work an extra shift at lunch, something he wasn’t really thrilled about because he’d just arrived back in town from Los Angeles. It just so happened that KC Royals pitcher Danny Duffy’s father was on the same flight from L.A., as was actor Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family.

As he was wrapping up his lunch shift, he was telling the customers at his last table that he talked to Duffy’s dad, and joked that he should have asked him for tickets to the game.

It turned out that the people at the table were Katelyn Davis and her family. Davis is the wife of Royals pitcher Wade Davis.

“I just went to drop off the check after she had paid, and I handed it back to her, and I started to walk away, thanked them for coming in, and when I started to walk away she was like, ‘Wait, wait, wait… I was going to give you a tip but instead…’ and she reached down in her purse, and said ‘I figured you might want this instead,'” O’Connor said.

So, O’Connor quickly asked for the night off and management obliged.

He went to Game One Monday night with the Davis family.
