Gerdi, a golden doodle, was rescued by the Olathe Fire Department Monday, Nov. 1, 2021, from a house fire.

OLATHE, Kan. — Firefighters in Olathe rescued a family’s dog from a fire Monday morning.

Video tweeted by the fire department shows an Olathe firefighter carrying the dog out of the home near 115th Terrace and Northwood Drive.

The fire department said Gerdi is a golden doodle previously rescued by the family through pet adoption.

Firefighters were called to the fire around 11:40 a.m. and believe the fire started in the garage. While firefighters said no one was injured in the fire, the house was damaged.

The damage is estimated to be at $165,000.

Investigators said Halloween fire pit ashes discarded in a plastic trash cart caused the fire.
