KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A house of cards came tumbling down Friday afternoon in a Kansas City neighborhood.

Firefighters were called out at about 3:30 p.m. Friday to the  building known as “House of Cards.”

Investigators say at this point, it’s too early in the investigation to know why it fell.

The abandoned building used to house apartments. It was known as the House of Cards because Northeast Arts KC orchestrated an art project two years ago that turned boarded up windows into hands of winning cards.

Volunteers painted 38 six-foot boards and another group installed them. It was part of a push to bring art awareness to the area and to do something with older buildings in the area.

No one was hurt in Friday’s collapse. Kansas City Dangerous Buildings says there are plans to tear the building down Saturday morning.

In 2014, a building that housed a Hispanic church suffered a similar fate right around the corner off Independence and Benton.
