KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Imagine you’re visiting a museum, and a concert breaks out! That pleasant surprise happened today for visitors at the WWI museum at Liberty Memorial.

And fittingly, it was the West Point Glee Club, straight out of the United States Military Academy.

In town for a gala tonight, the glee club put on a preview.

“The opening line is, to fallen soldiers let us sing,” says Michael Bidwell, one of the cadets in the glee club about their song of choice.

West Point Glee Club members toured the museum today.

“It`s really special,” adds Bidwell, “I came here in high school, it was cool, it was a good experience, but returning here now in the military has a much more significant impact on me.”

They broke out in song in the middle of the museum…on the glass bridge over the poppy field — one of the world’s most recognized memorial symbols for soldiers who have died in conflict.

“It`s definitely an emotional performance for us,” Bidwell says.

“Singing in front of the people is just a phenomenal experience,” says another glee club member, David Jeong.

Museum go-ers gathered around to watch and listen.

“To see those young people that are so patriotic and dedicated to our country, and the setting, after seeing the WWI museum, and the words of the song, it was very moving…it made me cry,” says Esther Osbahr, who was visiting the museum.

“Anything they would have to do or say here, particularly, is kind of sacred, so we kind of wanted to see what they were going to do, and I`m so glad we did,” says Greta Price, who was also visiting the museum, “Unexpected surprise, and incredibly meaningful.”

If you’re still looking for something to do tonight– the glee club will be performing at another event at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts tonight.

They’ll welcome the 2016 class of international officers from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth.
