KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Firefighters remained on the scene of a transformer fire at Kansas City Power & Light’s Hawthorn power plant, I-435 and Front Street on Thursday.
FOX 4’s Megan Dillard spoke to KCPL, who said there are no reports of any injuries.
The fire was caused by a circuit at a substation, which is outside the plant. KCPL says there was one customer on that circuit and that customer has already been switched over to another, and power restored.
The fire created heavy, black smoke that could be seen all around the city. Firefighters and KCPL reportedly decided to let the fire burn itself out.
