INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- A woman accused of taking a total of $10,000 from six different families after allegedly using the online site Craigslist to rent a Blue Springs house that she didn't own, appeared in a Jackson County court Wednesday morning.

Amanda S. Paris, 44, faces six counts of Stealing by Deceit, a class C felony under Missouri law.  She was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 5 by Blue Springs Police Detectives in Lee’s Summit, Mo.

The story about Paris and the rental house scam was featured on FOX 4 News Problem Solvers on Monday, Nov. 4.

On Wednesday, the court placed a $25,000 cash only bond on Paris.  She's reportedly working to get the bond posted.

According to court records, potential home renters contacted Paris in response to a Craigslist ad and paid her to rent a home in Blue Springs.  Paris had earlier rented the home and signed a lease agreeing not to allow anyone else to sublease and that she would be the sole renter.  Yet according to prosecutors, Paris collected, between Aug. 7 and Sept. 8, 2013, nearly $10,000 in future rental payments for the home. Victims identified her to Blue Springs Police as the person to whom they gave the payments.

Anyone else who might have given payments to Paris to rent a home should contact Blue Springs Police Sgt. Joe Fanara at (816) 228-0153.

Her next court date was set for 9:00 a.m. on Dec. 11.

FOX 4 News Kathy Quinn filed this report Wednesday from Independence.
