DES MOINES — Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Robert Bruggeman suffered some cuts to his face after he was allegedly assaulted in downtown Des Moines last weekend.

According to a report in the Des Moines Register, the 26-year-old Bruggeman was walking down a Des Moines street around 1:50 a.m. on Sunday morning when he was allegedly attacked and punched by another man.

Police say Bruggeman suffered a cut to his upper lip and complained about pain around his nose and mouth, but refused medical attention.

Erwin Arturo Castro-Cortez, 28, faces assault, disorderly conduct and public intoxication in connection to the alleged assault. Another man, Juan Sarceno-Barrera, 23, was charged with interference with official acts and public intoxication in connection to the incident.

Bruggeman, an Iowa native and former All-Big 10 center with the University of Iowa in 2008, signed with the Chiefs in the off-season after spending the last two seasons on the Atlanta Falcons practice squad.
