KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Tyreek Hill’s time in Kansas City is over. The Chiefs confirm they traded Hill to the Miami Dolphins for five draft picks.

The Dolphins are sending a 2022 first-round pick (#29), a second-round pick (#50), a fourth-round pick, in addition to fourth and sixth-round picks in the 2023 draft.

The Chiefs now have 12 picks in the upcoming draft, as of Wednesday, but could very well get rid of some or acquire more.

Adam Schefter tweeted that Hill will get a new contract from Miami. The deal is for four years, and $120 million, with $72 million guaranteed.

The New York Jets were also in the trade talks and considered Hill as a finalist. With Hill going to Miami, the deal makes a lot of sense and will be closer to home.

“I am happy for Tyreek, he has grown as a man and player here in Kansas City,” Head Coach Andy Reid said. “Myself, my staff and our organization appreciate all he did for our team. This move will also benefit the Chiefs, we now have cap space and additional draft picks to grow as a football team. I wish him well as he moves forward.”

News of the potential trade broke early on Wednesday when NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport said contract talks with Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill stalled, and his agent was given permission to seek a trade.

The Chiefs and Hill had been working on a new deal that was predicted to make him one of the highest-paid receivers in the league.

In 2021, Hill earned $9.75 million for being on the roster and $2.14 million for reporting to team activities along with a $1.45 million signing bonus.

That $13.34 million made up most of the $15.85 million he is scheduled to make from the 2021 season.

Hill was drafted by the Chiefs in the 2016 NFL draft out of West Alabama.

During his tenure with Kansas City, Cheetah played in a total of 91 games which 73 he started. He caught 479 catches for 6630 yards. He also caught 111 passes which were the most during his time with the Chiefs.

The six-time Pro Bowler has been named first-team three times with the Chiefs and is coming off 1,200-plus yards in back-to-back seasons.

“It’s hard to put into words what Tyreek has meant to Chiefs Kingdom over the last six years,” Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach said.

“He’s a special player, one of the best in franchise history. He’s been a large part of our success, including our Super Bowl championship run. This decision was incredibly difficult, but we felt it was a necessary move in the best interest of the team, and also for Tyreek. We wish him the best as he continues his career.”

With Hill out of Kansas City, the Chiefs starting to explore options to replace the role. Sources say Packers free agent Marquez Valdes-Scantling made his visit with the team, but no deal has been done.

Last week, the Chiefs signed former Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster to a deal.
