GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A full month away from home and playing at Allen Fieldhouse is really taking its toll on the Kansas Jayhawk basketball team.
Tuesday night the Jayhawks (6-3) suffered their 3rd loss in 4 road games, falling to Florida in the BIG 12/SEC Challenge, 67-61. After taking a 10-3 lead, Kansas went almost 9 minutes without scoring a basket, as Florida went on a 21-0 run.
The Jayhawks committed 16 first half turnovers, while giving up a total of 24 during the entire game. After trailing by 15 points at the half, 36-21, Kansas did outscore Florida in the second half by 9 points. But an 18-point deficit at one point was too much to overcome.
Kansas Coach Bill Self started 4 freshman and a sophomore Tuesday night. Forward Andrew Wiggins scored a game high 26 for KU, while senior Scottie Wilbekin led the Gators with 18.
Kansas next plays Saturday night at the Sprint Center against New Mexico in a game that tips off at 6pm.
