KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The defending American League champion Kansas City Royals have announced their 25-man Opening Day roster as the team prepares to kick off the 2015 season on Monday.

On Sunday, the team announced that they have selected the contracts of right-handed pitcher Ryan Madson and left-handed pitcher Franklin Morales and added them to the 25-man roster. To make room, the team placed lefty reliever Tim Collins and right-handed reliever Luke Hochevar on the 15-day disabled list to start the season.

Collins and Hochevar are both recovering from Tommy John surgery.

The team also announced that they have optioned left-handed pitcher Brian Flynn to Triple-A Omaha and assigned six other players—right-handed pitcher Joe Blanton, catcher J.C. Boscan, infielders Ryan Jackson, Whit Merrifield and Gabriel Noriega and outfielder Moises Sierra to Omaha.
