MANHATTAN, Kan. — No. 22 Oklahoma snapped K-State’s 4 game winning streak Saturday.
The Sooners broke open a tight game in the fourth quarter to beat the Wildcats 41-31 on Senior Day in Manhattan. The loss dropped the Cats to 6-5 overall, 4-4 in the Big 12 with one game left next week at Kansas.
Trailing 14-0 in the second quarter, K-State’s Jake Waters connected with Tyler Lockett on touchdown passes of 48 and 30 yards to tie it up. After the Sooners’ Brennan Clay ran one in from 64 yards, Waters threw a deep ball to Lockett, who made the catch and took off for a 90-yard touchdown, tying the game at 21-21.
It remained close with OU leading 27-24 early in the fourth quarter. K-State was forced to punt from deep in its own end zone. The short punt into the wind was fielded by Jalen Saunders on the run. Saunders returned it to the K-State 3. Clay scored on the next play to give the Sooners a 10-point lead. Then Waters was picked off by Zack Sanchez, who picked up a convoy of blockers and returned the interception 74 yards to increase the OU lead to 41-24.
Lockett caught 12 passes for a school-record of 278 yards and three touchdowns. He finished with 440 all-purpose yards, breaking the K-State record formerly held by Darren Sproles.
