KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Royals won walk-off fashion Wednesday night. Eric Hosmer slammed two home runs, Alcides Escobar delivered a game-winning RBI double in the ninth, and the Royals beat Baltimore 4-3.
The game was tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth. David Lough singled ahead of Escobar with one out and scored from first on Escobar’s drive off the top of the left field wall.
Hosmer hit a solo home run in the first. A two-out error by Hosmer in the fourth led to a pair of runs for the Orioles. Matt Wieters followed with a two-run homer that pushed the Orioles ahead 3-1. Hosmer made up for the gaffe with his game-tying, two-run shot in the eighth, his 11th home run of the season.
Ervin Santana pitched eight strong innings and gave up only one earned run in what could have been his last start for the Royals. Santana’s name is being tossed around as baseball’s trade deadline approaches next Wednesday.
The four-game series concludes Thursday night. Then the Royals hit the road for nine straight.
